Implemed, Inc. based out of Massachusetts, reportedly received govermental approval to market a line of products ( "Oligon" ) in Eastern Europe. The silver-based central venous catheters release silver ions from the catheter into tissues through the electrolsysis method of silver ion production. The company claims the process is effective against antibiotic resistant gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, as well as fungi.
