Samsung Introduces Silver Ions -- via Electrolysis-- into Washing Machines

Samsung VTR Front Loading Washing Machine with Silver ions

The new Samsung VRT front-loading washing machine, starting at a retail price of $1200, uses a patented Silver CareTM Technology to release silver ions ( Ag+) into the wash. The silver ions ( Ag+ ) are generated via electrolysis using 99.9% pure silver.

Samsung developed this technology as an energy saving feature, citing a 99.9% kill rate for tested bacteria. The selling feature of the Silver Care technology is that odor causing bacteria may be eliminated using cold water.

The new VRT Washing Machine debuted for the first time at the 2007 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (K/BIS) in Las Vegas, Nevada, May 2007.

Subject: Samsung introduces silver ions technology into washing machines

Just what implications on the natural enviroment will this have? What enviromental studies has Samsung conducted to ensure that their new product is not going to have detrimental effects on the natural enviroment?
